why eye exams matter

Regular eye exams are one of the best ways to protect your vision and overall health. Even if you think your eyesight is fine, many eye problems start without any warning signs. A comprehensive eye exam can detect issues early — before they affect your daily life or become harder to treat. An eye exam is more than reading letters on a chart. During your visit, your optometrist checks:
  • Eye health – to look for signs of eye diseases like glaucoma, cataracts, or macular degeneration.
  • Vision changes – to see if you need glasses or contact lenses, or if your current prescription needs updating.
  • Overall health – eye exams can also reveal signs of other health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and even high cholesterol.

Routine Retinal Screening

During your annual comprehensive eye exam you will also have an advanced retinal screening* in order for our doctors to reference and evaluate the changes of the health of your eyes over time. This test is crucial and necessary to be able detect conditions related to the eye such as: hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes, retinal detachment, macular degeneration, and other potential vision-loss diseases affecting your retina. Our advanced retinal imaging equipment allows for imaging through pupils as small as 2.2 mm, without the need of dilation drops.
